Reports indicate that a property in Salt Lake County has been acquired to build an immigration detention facility. Our community is only learning this from news outlets. Our local leaders and residents are being left in the dark. This is unacceptable.
Our federal elected officials continue to turn a blind eye to decisions with enormous impacts on our community. But I take on tough challenges, because that’s the only way to get real results. I stand with Mayor Wilson and Salt Lake County officials who have already opposed this proposal. I look forward to working with my fellow democratic elected officials to make sure decisions aren’t made without our knowledge and that we take action.
Salt Lake County is a community built on fairness and opportunity. We do not warehouse human beings. I oppose what ICE is doing to human beings. I oppose building an immigration detention facility. And I’ll keep pushing until we get answers.
